The group scored numerous hits, including "It's All Right," "People Get Ready," and "Keep on Pushing," which became anthems of the Civil Rights Movement. Mayfield's socially conscious lyrics and smooth falsetto vocals set him apart from his contemporaries, earning him a reputation as one of the most important voices in soul music.
